Favorite Sites of the Week: Taaz.com and Brightkite.com

This week I have two websites that I've been having some fun with. The first is Taaz.com. At Taaz you can upload a photo of yourself and give yourself a makeover, with new hair, makeup, even contacts. It works quite well, the UI is nice, and it has all the social networking goodies like friends and commenting and you can even give other people makeovers! There's been other sites that tried to do this but didn't do a good job at all, were full of advertising (Taaz has advertising, but it's not intrusive), or gave you limited options unless you paid for it.

This is the haircut I come up with. They do need more hairstyles, I think, and a 360 view would be awesome.

I also got my Brightkite invite. It's still in beta and I do have an invite left if anyone wants it. It doesn't quite have all the features but it's getting there. Basically, you "check in" to where you are and you can see where other people are. It seems most useful if you know a lot of people or there are at least a lot of people in the same places as you. It'd be a lot of fun if it got really big. I like it a lot better than Twitter, but I don't know that it'd completely take it's place. It does allow you to easily add photos (either via the website or mobile), post notes twitter like, and even integrate w/ twitter so that your check ins are posted on twitter. I don't really have many friends on it yet. We'll see. I like the way it feels, though. I think there's still a few things I need to figure out, and there's so many possible things you can do via SMS that I feel a bit overwhelmed, but all in all, well done.
