This last week I've taken it upon myself to see what's going on in the web tech world. I used to keep pretty on top of this stuff, web 2.0 and all that, but I've admittedly fallen behind on the latest and greatest the past year, instead concentrating on Drupal and, of course, my three amazing daughters.
There's so many new websites and things to do and keep up with. Web 3.0, even - gack! Come on! I just barely started twittering (tweeting?) and reorganized my iGoogle and added a bunch of feeds I used to read, feeds from some Drupalchix, etc. But I still just don't know if it's even worth it.
Obviously, being a web developer and in this field in general, keeping on top of what's going on is important. I get that. I'm a member and use a lot of social sharing sites. Great! But, I dunno. So I just started using twitter and it's actually pretty cool, but a lot of people who I'd love to keep up on via twitter don't even use it. Don't even know what I'm talking about. Old friends I've looked for don't even seem to exist on Facebook, or even MySpace. A lot of people I know are still using Shutterfly.com for pictures over Flickr.
My sisters have no idea what it is I do, I think. My mother knows it has something to do with computers. But all in all, there just seems to be a big massive missing link somewhere, and I sure as heck don't know how to find it or what it is.
My 4 year old, though, seems to have been born to browse YouTube. So perhaps that's the key. Perhaps this is all truly built for the younger generations, and I'm just a old Internet dinosaur trying to make my way through it all, wondering what happened to the days when Usenet ruled the world and MUDs were what we had instead of MMORPGs.
Yikes!
